AI services that keep your business in control

We put AI inside the workflows your systems already run, and next to the decisions your team makes. When you want AI agents to act, we build a control layer that limits what they can see, what they can change, and what they must record. You own that layer. You can change the model. A person still approves the actions you choose.

What do we mean by AI services?

AI is useful when it sits inside a defined process and works from clean, consistent data. It is not useful when it is attached to a spreadsheet and asked to guess. Once your workflows are systems, AI can use that data and follow those rules. We do not sell a platform or a chatbot subscription. We build AI into the way your business already works, so it does a specific job you can measure.

In practice that work falls into three areas: AI-assisted workflow management, where AI takes on the reading, sorting and drafting inside a process; AI-assisted decision support, where it pulls together the information a person needs to make a call; and custom AI harness development, where we build the control layer that governs AI agents acting inside your business workflows.

AI-assisted workflow management

Most business workflows still contain steps that need a person to read something and decide what it means: an enquiry email that needs classifying and routing, an order arriving as a PDF that needs re-typing, a supplier document that needs checking against a purchase order, a customer reply that needs drafting. These are the steps AI is now genuinely good at. We build AI into the workflow at exactly those points to extract the details, sort the item, draft the response or flag the exception, so the work arrives with your team already prepared rather than starting from a blank screen.

The important design choice is where the rules live. Who approves what, what happens next and which records get updated all stay in your system, where they behave the same way every time. AI does the reading and the drafting; the system decides what happens with the result. If the process you want to improve still lives in spreadsheets and inboxes, the first step is usually bespoke software development to turn it into a system, with AI added once there's a reliable process to add it to.

AI-assisted decision support

Many of the decisions an SME makes every week depend on information scattered across several systems: which quotes are at risk of going cold, which jobs are drifting over budget, which customers have quietly stopped ordering, whether a stock reorder can wait another fortnight. Decision support brings that information together, summarises it, highlights the patterns and exceptions worth attention, and sets out the options, so the person making the call spends their time judging rather than gathering.

Two principles shape everything we build here. The decision stays with a person: the AI prepares, it doesn't decide. And the AI shows its working: every summary links back to the records it came from, so an answer can be checked rather than simply trusted. Because it works from your own business data rather than general knowledge, the quality of the advice depends directly on the quality of that data. That's why decision support delivers most for businesses that already have one version of the truth.

Custom AI harness development

An AI agent is an AI model that has been given tools, such as the ability to read records, update a system, send an email or raise an order, and asked to complete a task. The harness is the software around it: it decides what information the agent can see, which tools it can use, which actions need a person's approval, and it records everything the agent does. The model supplies the reasoning; the harness supplies the control.

As businesses move from AI assistants that answer questions to AI agents that take actions inside real workflows, the harness becomes the most important part of the deployment. It's also the part most often left to whichever vendor platform the agent happens to run on. We think that's the wrong way round. A business deploying agents into its own workflows should own the layer that controls them, in the same way it owns the rest of its business systems.

Why own your AI harness

A custom harness, designed and built for your business, gives you four things a third-party agent platform can't.

  • You own it, and the IP inside it

The rules, prompts, integrations and workflow logic that make AI useful in your business are a business asset. Built on a third-party platform, they sit inside someone else's product, pricing and terms. Built for you, they're yours, just like any bespoke system we deliver.

  • Independent of any model or provider

AI models improve and prices change month to month. A harness designed to be model-independent lets you swap in a better or more cost-effective model, or use different models for different tasks, without rebuilding the workflow around it.

  • Human in the loop, enforced in code

Approval points are built into the harness deterministically, not written as instructions an agent is asked to follow. If a payment, a customer communication or a contract change needs sign-off, the workflow stops until a named person gives it. Rules and skills given to a model can be interpreted; code can't.

  • A full and accurate audit trail

Every input, model response, tool call, approval and outcome is recorded against the workflow it belongs to. That's evidence your business rules were followed, an answer when someone asks why something happened, and the data to analyse and refine the deployment over time.

Why build it with us

A harness is, underneath, a business system: workflow logic, user permissions, integrations with the tools you already run, and reliable records of who did what and when. Those are exactly the disciplines the founders have spent over 30 years delivering for SME clients, from local businesses to national names including BT, Apple, Microsoft and Pizza Express. We bring current, hands-on AI delivery experience to the parts that are new. Every AI project is delivered by senior engineers, with a founder involved throughout, not handed to a junior team once the contract is signed.

We'll also tell you plainly when AI isn't the answer. If an off-the-shelf AI tool already does what you need, or if the process you want to improve isn't yet stable enough for AI to help, we'd rather say so than build something that can't earn its keep.

How an AI project starts

The same way every project we deliver starts: with a fixed-scope analysis phase, so you know the cost and the plan before committing to a build. We map the workflow or decision in question, agree where AI genuinely adds value and where a person must stay in control, and set out which models and providers make sense for the job, including the build cost and the likely cost to run.

Delivery is phased. The first release usually tackles one workflow, often running alongside your team before it takes on more of the work itself, so you can see what the AI gets right, where people correct it, and what it costs per task. Because the audit trail records all of that from day one, the decision about what to extend next is based on evidence rather than enthusiasm.

Where this fits in the ladder

AI services are the top rung of the ladder, and each rung depends on the one below it. If you're not sure whether your business is ready, start with our AI readiness framework . If the workflow you want to improve still runs on spreadsheets, see bespoke software development , and if AI needs to work across tools that don't yet talk to each other, see system integration .

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI harness, and why does it matter?
An AI harness is the software that sits around an AI model or agent and controls how it works inside your business. It decides what information the agent can see, which tools and systems it can use, which actions need a person's approval, and it records everything the agent does. The model supplies the reasoning; the harness supplies the control. Once AI agents move beyond answering questions to taking actions, such as updating records, sending emails or raising orders, the harness becomes the most important part of the deployment, because it is what keeps those actions within your business rules.
Can we change AI model or provider later?
Yes, if the harness is designed for it from the start, which is how we build them. AI models improve and prices change quickly, so we keep your workflow logic, approval rules and audit trail in a harness you own, separate from any single model or provider. Swapping in a better or more cost-effective model, or using different models for different tasks, then becomes a configuration and testing exercise rather than a rebuild. Platforms tied to one provider make that switch far harder, and the rules you have built up inside them rarely come with you.
How do you keep a person in control of what AI agents do?
By building approval points into the harness as code, rather than writing them as instructions the AI is asked to follow. Instructions, rules and skills given to a model are open to interpretation; a coded approval step is not. If an action such as a payment, a customer communication, or a change to a contract or a price needs sign-off, the workflow stops at that point until a named person approves it, and that approval is recorded in the audit trail alongside everything the agent did before and after it.
Do we need to be AI-ready before you can help with AI?
Not necessarily, but it shapes where we start. AI produces results worth trusting when it works from clean data and a defined process. If the workflow you want to improve already runs through a system, we can usually add AI to it directly. If it still lives in spreadsheets, inboxes or someone's memory, the honest first step is to turn it into a system, with AI added once there is something reliable to build on. Our AI readiness framework sets out how to tell which applies to you, and the fixed-scope analysis phase confirms it before any commitment to build.
